The 16 sites had a median of 7.5 problems and a median score of 74. Sites with no widget scored 80.
11 of 16 Text too faint to read
90 places in all. Light grey on white, or white on a pale photo. Hard to read for older customers and anyone on a phone in sunlight. Check your colors
10 of 16 Links with no name
46 places in all. Icon links (Facebook, Instagram, the phone icon, the logo) that a screen reader announces as just “link”. Name your icon links
6 of 16 Photos without descriptions
27 places in all. Images with no text alternative, so screen readers skip them or read out a file name. Describe your photos
5 of 16 Buttons with no name
10 places in all. Menu, search and close buttons that are only an icon and are announced as just “button”. Name your icon buttons
3 of 16 Zoom blocked on phones
A setting that stops people pinching to zoom in on prices, hours and small print. Turn zoom back on
3 of 16 Untitled maps and widgets
Embedded maps, booking and review widgets with no title, so screen reader users can’t tell what they are. Title your map and videos
Builders: 5 on WordPress, 4 hand-coded, 4 on Squarespace, 3 on Shopify. Most common businesses: optometrists 3, shops 2, bakeries 2, real estate 2. Scanned in October 2026 in a real browser after each page loaded, accessiBe included. We picked these sites because each had at least one problem, so the numbers describe sites with problems, not every site that uses accessiBe.
Why accessiBe can’t change these
These problems sit in your own pages: the text color you picked, the icon link with no name, the photo with no description. A toolbar on top of the page doesn’t edit them. Fix them once in your website builder and they stay fixed, with or without the widget.
In April 2025 the US Federal Trade Commission finalized an order requiring accessiBe to pay $1 million over claims that its automated tool could make websites compliant. The order bars such claims without evidence. FTC press release, April 22, 2025.
