Describe your photos for every customer

Type a photo description. See how a screen reader reads it.

What is the image?

A screen reader says: “Image, IMG_2041.jpg”

  • Change This looks like a file name. People hear it read out letter by letter.

Before and after, by business

  • Restaurant dish

  • Menu as a photo

Not “menu”. Put the menu on the page as text.

  • Team photo

Not “team”. Dr. Ana Ruiz, our optometrist, at the front desk

  • Product

Not “image of shirt”. Navy linen shirt, front view

How often we find it

86 of the 546 local business websites we scanned had photos with no description: 451 images in all, a median of 3 per site. Eye doctors, hotels and shops had it most.

From our own scans in October 2026. We picked these sites because each had at least one serious issue, so the numbers describe sites with problems, not every site.

Where to type it

  • WordPress

Media → Library → click the image → Alternative Text.

  • Squarespace

Edit the image block → image alt text field.

  • Wix

Click the image → Settings → “What’s in the image? Tell Google”.

  • Shopify

Products → open a product → click a photo → Add alt text.

  • Webflow

Select the image → Element settings → Alt text → Custom description.
