Give your map and videos a title

Paste the embed code. See what a screen reader says.

Paste the code you got from Google Maps, YouTube or your booking tool, or the code already in your page’s embed block. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.

A screen reader says: “Frame”

  • Change No title. Screen reader users hear only “frame” and have to go inside to find out what it is.

Title it “Map to Rosa's Bakery”. In code, the first line becomes:

<iframe title="Map to Rosa's Bakery" src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d3022.1!2d-73.98!3d40.75!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0x0!2sRosa's%20Bakery!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1" width="600" height="450" style="border:0;" allowfullscreen="" loading="lazy">

Most of them were Google Maps

104 of the 546 local business websites we scanned had an embed with no title: 136 in all. Where we saved the code (78 sites), 51 were Google Maps. The rest were YouTube and Vimeo videos, social feeds, review and booking widgets.

From our own scans in October 2026. We picked these sites because each had at least one serious issue, so the numbers describe sites with problems, not every site.

Say what’s inside

Without a title, a screen reader announces just “frame”. A few words saying what it shows is enough.

  • Google Map

    “Map to Rosa’s Bakery”

  • YouTube or Vimeo video

“Video: a tour of our kitchen”

  • Booking calendar (Calendly, Square, Vagaro)

    “Booking calendar”

  • Reservation widget (OpenTable, Resy)

    “Reservation form”

  • Instagram or Facebook feed

    “Instagram feed”

  • Contact form from Jotform or Google Forms

    “Contact form”

Where to type it

If you pasted the embed code yourself, add the title inside that code.

  • WordPress

Open the block that holds the embed (often a Custom HTML block) and add a title inside the iframe tag, for example <iframe title="Map to our office" …>. Maps added by a plugin: look in the plugin’s settings for a title or label field.

  • Wix

Edit the embed code and add one inside the iframe tag, for example <iframe title="Booking calendar" …>.

  • Webflow

Double-click the Code Embed (or select it and press Enter) to open its code, then add a title inside the iframe tag, for example <iframe title="Map to our shop" …>.

Find every embed that needs one

The free scan lists each untitled embed on your home page and suggests a title. Icon links need a name too. Automated scans catch a portion of accessibility issues and are not a legal compliance certification.
